"Galloping Gourmet" Graham Kerr • 10 AM • FREE Chelan High School Performing Arts Center In his days as the Galloping Gourmet he practiced
"hedonism in a hurry," creating dishes overflowing with cream, butter,
egg yolks and deep-fat fried.
Then in 1972, while recuperating after a near fatal
accident, Graham began to experiment with a low-fat cooking style to
help ease his family's stomachs while traveling at sea. The family,
however, rebelled against Graham's first efforts of his "caring"
cuisine, claiming the food to be bland and unremitting.
It wasn't until his wife Treena's heart attack
in 1986 that Graham really begin to refine his low-fat cuisine,
realizing he needed to wrap the "caring" with pleasure. The same year
Graham decided that his personal mission would be to help Treena make
healthy and creative lifestyle changes that would last.
After a 23-year journey of intensive
nutritional research, combined with his years of cooking experience,
Graham created the techniques he uses today. He has shared these
discoveries through his books and television series, as seen on PBS and
The Discovery Channel and continues to communicate his message of
combining sound nutrition with creative cooking on an international
level. As an award-winning author, Graham Kerr has written 23 books with over 14 million copies sold.
Graham Kerr is an internationally recognized culinary and television personality, award-winning author and motivational speaker. His focus is on serving people who want to make healthy, creative lifestyle changes, and he believes that the only lasting changes are the ones that we enjoy. As a motivational speaker, Kerr focuses on helping people make healthy and creative lifestyle changes. His presentation provides healthy alternatives that will improve your quality of life and sense of well-being.
Living Healthy in a Doubleburger.com World Joe Piscatella • 2 PM • FREE Chelan High School Performing Arts Center Contrary to popular belief, men are not the chief victims of heart
disease. The truth is that heart disease is an equal opportunity
affliction. While about the same number of women as men have heart
disease, it is by far the number one killer of women. Indeed, over
250,000 women die from the disease each year; more than the next 14
causes of death combined. The good news, however, is that with a
heart-healthy lifestyle - healthy eating, regular exercise, not smoking
and managing stress - women can prevent, stabilize and even reverse
heart disease.
But the link between lifestyle and health is not
new. Indeed, many attendees of the Women’s Health Fair already know
about healthy living. But most don’t practice it. In this presentation,
Joe Piscatella examines the impact of chronic stress on eating and
exercise habits. All Americans - but particularly women - live with
chronic stress and no one has enough time. The result is often high
levels of frustration, anxiety and anger, where M&M’s become lunch!
Says one female corporate manager, “I’m dropping kids off to school at
7am, racing to work at 8, in a grocery store at 5:15pm, answering
e-mails at 9, and doing laundry till midnight. I’m always behind and
never have enough time to do my best. Weekends used to be for kicking
back, now they’re for catching up.”
In this presentation, Joe
examines the impact of chronic stress on healthy habits. He illustrates
how stress can trigger high blood pressure, increase cholesterol and
produce fatal heart attacks. Joe helps audiences understand that the
secret to a balanced life is not to avoid stress, but to manage it; not
to react to stress, but to respond to it. He examines the source of
stress, including Type A personality, and provides audiences with
mental and physical tools to successfully manage stress every day. Joe Piscatella is one of the country’s most respected experts on how to live a healthy lifestyle in the real world. He has been called "a force for positive change" by TIME magazine, and his experience of undergoing bypass surgery at age 32 and subsequently managing heart disease successfully for 31 years gives him a practical perspective you’ll appreciate.
President of the Institute for Fitness and Health, he lectures extensively to a variety of clients, including Fortune 1000 companies, professional associations and medical organizations. Over 2 million people have attended his seminars.
He is the author of ten best-selling books, including Don't Eat Your Heart Out, Take A Load Off Your Heart and The Road to A Healthy Heart Runs Through the Kitchen.
Mr. Piscatella has hosted three PBS television specials. His latest, Take A Load Off Your Heart, is airing nationally. A PBS special on children’s health based on his book, Fat-Proof Your Child, is also scheduled. He is a frequent guest on television and radio programs, including CNN, The Today Show and Good Morning America.
